SUMMARY:Faith-Rooted Justice Training
DESCRIPTION:Many Christians know how to meet immediate needs\, but true justice and compassion require changing the broken systems that create those needs in the first place. Crossing that bridge from personal charity to lasting\, systemic change is where most of us get stuck. \nDuring this training\, Michelle Ferrigno Warren will walk through the theology of justice and peacemaking\, the foundations and practices of faith-rooted organizing\, community development strategies\, and how legislative advocacy actually works. You’ll learn how to pursue justice in the public square in a way that is effective\, faithful\, and restorative. \nThis event is hosted by Faithful Neighbors\, a community group focused on loving our refugee and immigrant neighbors. This training is designed for Christians engaging issues of poverty\, immigration\, and other social concerns that are informed by our faith. \nRegistration is per person and includes copies of Michelle’s 2 books. Additional household members are able to register at a discounted rate and will not receive books with this registration. Scholarships are also available for those where the cost would be a barrier. \nThe training will include a lunch break where participants can either bring their own lunch or grab something nearby. \nAbout Michelle \nMichelle Warren has been involved in justice and advocacy work for three decades. She and her husband David started a transitional home for teenage girls in Denver in 1996\, then helped launch Open Door Ministries\, a nonprofit addressing poverty\, addiction\, and homelessness downtown. \nShe served as Advocacy and Strategic Engagement Director for the Christian Community Development Association and teaches this material as adjunct faculty at Denver Seminary. She’s the author of The Power of Proximity and Join the Resistance\, and her work has been covered by the Denver Post\, the New York Times\, PBS NewsHour\, and Christianity Today. \nDoing+Justice+in+Public+Square+Flyer
